It’s the Lunar New Year, and I am trying not to work today, so I’m getting the bare minimum done to keep the studio rolling along.

But I HAVE to stop and show you these two blog posts of Texas couple, Jenna & Andy’s wedding, not only because the photos itself are so amazing, but because the classic green and blue touches, the bright orange and white flowers, the incredibly cute cake topper, the sheer happiness that is on their faces, are totally worth a look. Go ahead, click on over! (Oh, and you’ll see a neat little photo of the Brooklyn Bridge favor tags on their Black and White cookie favors. Who doesn’t love black and white cookies?!)

Double Happiness Favor Tags Idea

Once in a while, a client would request a custom item that ends up being a regular shop item for sale because of its broad appeal. There’s an innate sense at work here: Brides know what brides like!

The ever popular Sweet Branch Collection is one that came out of a simple request. (Thanks, Nancy and Smith!)

Carrie also had such a request. In this case, it was a call for a favor tag featuring the Double Happiness Chinese character. The character is something that is synonymous with Asian weddings. The actual character is literally a result of two “joy” (喜) characters joining together. It holds a special significance in weddings much like the Celtic Knot in Irish culture that represents the intertwining of two spirits.

Carrie ended up using the Double Happiness Favor Tags to add a personal touch to the take out favor containers, and used a red satin ribbon to finish the look. Simple and pretty!

A Simple Wedding Reception Place Setting Idea

I’m always happy to see photos of how my stationery ends up being used. Beth and Ryan, who chose the Cotton Blossoms design for their 2010 wedding, incorporated the tea length menu and tags in a nice and simple way. They folded the napkins and placed the menu on top, then tied their favor tags around it with a sheer ribbon. The tags incorporated a message on the back that announced a donation to their favorite charity. Cool and simple! Thanks for the photos, Beth!

A Cool Idea for Incorporating Canvas in Your Wedding Reception

Once in a while I come across really cool ideas that couples can incorporate into their wedding, simple things that add a bit of fun personalized detail.

Enter Easy Canvas Prints, a website that will turn your photos to canvas. I had the pleasure of creating a custom graphics canvas for Jenn and Billy to match their Brooklyn Bridge theme. The canvas was placed at the entrance of their reception, alongside the Brooklyn Bridge escort cards, and it looked great!

The canvas looked great, but my photography skills need work!

As a graphic designer, I always worry about print quality when it’s turned over to another source. But with Easy Canvas Print, the artwork was nice and crisp. I’d imagine that it would be just as nice for those that want to turn their engagement photos to canvas.

Here’s a daylight photo of the canvas at the studio prior to its use.

The turn around time was fast. The canvas came securely packaged in a plastic covering to protect its transit. And customer service couldn’t have been nicer, (which if you’ve been reading this blog, know that these points are seriously lacking in certain companies these days)!

It looks as though the company has a 50% off and free shipping promo on their Facebook page, so go ahead and like ‘em. I can tell you I already did!

Help me come up with a name for this wedding invitation

I am usually never at a lost for naming my wedding invitations, but for some reason today, I can’t seem to come up with a name for this new design I created! It must be due to the fact that my computer keeps zombie hours when I go to bed at night; it wakes up intermittently, casting a soft glow down the dark hallway and into the bedroom… But I digress… The invitations…

So, this is what I came up with:

This is a double-layed petal fold invitation with Swarovski crystals, inspired by hanging lanterns and light strands, (things I am quite fond of, by the way).

Here is a bit of the description I am working on:

“The top graphic features a whimsical illustration of hanging strands of latnerns that dances in the sun.”

So what does this have to do with you? Well, you’re going to help me come up with a name for this invitation. (At least I hope you will!) And as a gesture, I’d like to offer a set of these personalized note cards to the person who comes up with the most appropriate name.
